Progress update - smaller jeans!

I started following the 5&1 program on October 12. That’s less than 4 months ago if your sense of time is skewed like mine right now.

My goals were more about how I felt rather than my weight. My dream goal was to fit into size 10 jeans again - I’m 5’10” so that is (I thought) a comfortable size for me.

Today I pulled out some size 8 jeans. They fit perfectly. It’s extra funny because just yesterday I shared this first picture - size 16 to size 10 jeans (same brand, style, rise, etc) and I knew the 10s were getting big but didn’t think the 8s would fit yet.

This program works!

Week 12 Weigh-In - January 4, 2021

Have I mentioned before that I am LOVING this program? I think I might have 😉

I breezed through the New Years holiday on plan - a big part of that is because I didn't leave my house due to the pandemic, but regardless, I stayed on plan, I made a choice to fuel my body with the food it needs and wants, and I FEEL AMAZING. I sat down and wrote out my goals for the year.

I have been tracking my measurements also, and let me just say - I am blown away by the difference between October 12 and today. I look at myself in the mirror and I still see me, but I put on clothes I wasn't even close to fitting into before and they're big. I am wearing shirts that are two sizes smaller than what I was wearing before. My jeans have dropped almost 3 full sizes. My watch is on a much smaller setting, so is my belt. I can't say it enough, this program WORKS, and it is EASY. The formula is so simple - follow the program, eat 5 Fuelings plus 1 Lean and Green a day, and lose weight and inches while also feeling better. Fat-Burn is an awesome place to be!

I've changed my goal recently - when I started, I was hoping to lose 20 lbs. I didn't honestly think it was possible. Then I changed it to 60 lbs. Now I'm going for a healthier weight and BMI for my height. I will get there, and you know what? It'll be THIS YEAR that I get to that goal, and then THAT'S IT - I never have to do this again! All these little daily choices are leading me to big lifelong changes, and I couldn't be happier about it.

A Tale of Two Dresses

I bought the dress on the right to wear for an event a few years ago. I loved it - the material, the fit, the way the bottom hem looks. When I got home though, it was a little too snug to wear comfortably. I called all over town looking for another store with the same dress in a bigger size - found it - and went and bought it. That's the dress on the left. I don't have many occasions to get dressed up (especially this year), but I last wore the larger size dress to a Roaring 20s party last December, and absolutely loved being dressed up and out with my friends and felt good in what I was wearing (despite hiding behind a shawl).

I tried on dresses last night so my daughter and I could take silly pictures in front of the tree (you've seen the pics from the 50s and 60s floating around of women decked out posing with their trees, right?) and the larger size dress was falling off me, so I tried on the smaller size, and that's what I'm wearing in the picture. It actually has too much room in it now, but I still love the material and the way the dress flares, and that's the dress my daughter chose for me to wear last night for our silly pictures because she likes the hem too.

So, I'm officially retiring the dress on the left, and probably need to retire the dress on the right too, and buy myself some new fancy clothes for the off-chance of getting dressed up and going out someday ever again. If you're like me and have a closet full of clothes you hold on to, on the off chance of maybe possibly fitting into them again someday, let me help you get your someday sooner rather than later. It took me 2 years to decide to commit to this program, and choose myself and my health; don't wait as long as I did. Give yourself the gift of health this holiday season. I'd love to celebrate you fitting into your "someday" clothes in a few weeks!

Progress Post!

I like numbers. I like tracking my progress. I take weekly measurements as well and always love seeing inches drop too! This program was not about the weight-loss for me, it was about learning healthy habits to eat and be able to learn and adopt those habits for the rest of my life. The weight-loss is an added benefit.

I compiled my first seven weekly weigh ins into two graphics - one for October, and one for November.

Does anyone have a good way to track everything? I have part of it in my Lose It app, and all of it in a Note on my phone, but I'd love to have one place to document all of my progress, so I can refer back to it for motivation and inspiration.

Optavia Week 5 - Weigh In 11/16/20

Week 5 felt a lot slower to me than other weeks. It's my birthday tomorrow (it's a big one) and I went out to dinner on Saturday and my salad with salmon had mushrooms in it, and I haven't eaten mushrooms in a few years, and I think they made me bloated. I also spent the several hours yesterday doing yard work, cleaning up the leaves, and exerted more energy than I normally do, so I'm not sure how that will play into things this week.

Some of the things I worked on this week - the mental work is necessary for my success.

  1. Really feeling in tune with my body. I like knowing what I put into my body, and the effect it has on me.
  2. Planning out my Fuelings. I had to place another order this weekend, and although I have enough Fuelings for two weeks, I am trying to make sure I eat a variety each day, and still limit my bars to 1 or 2 at the most per day.
  3. Planning out my Lean and Green earlier in the day, so I'm not scrambling to eat.

So here's my Week 5 details from my weigh in:

I lost 3.8 pounds this week!

That brings my total in five weeks on Optavia to -24.3 pounds. Holy crap. I can really see and feel the difference in my bust and my waist. I tried on smaller jeans this weekend - and they fit! TWO sizes smaller than what I started in! And, my face is much thinner too - noticeably so.

Optavia 30 Day Results

Today is Day 31, so I took photos this morning to document my progress. I never intended to share the original photos with anyone, but the difference is so drastic I have to share this one. When I started this program, I took the original photos on Day 1 - October 12, 2020. I've completed 30 full days of Optavia.

Some of the differences I notice every single day:

  • I am sleeping amazingly well at night. It is sound, deep sleep - unlike what I've ever experienced before as an adult, especially with kids (even though my kids are 10 and 15).
  • My tastes have changed, because I don't have cravings for sweets. I used to want a piece of dairy-free chocolate at night before bed, or something else sweet. I've never in my life gone through the Halloween season without touching a single piece of candy, or even being tempted by it (although the candy corn pumpkins were calling my name one day a few weeks ago).
  • I am not hungry. I eat every 2.5-3 hours every day, throughout the day, and I am completely satisfied.
  • I don't have the afternoon slump where I want to take a 20 minute nap mid-afternoon.
  • I wake up refreshed and ready to go, because I'm sleeping so well. Even on days like today when it is pouring rain and great sleeping weather, I still wake up ready for the day.
  • I wasn't drinking a lot of coffee before, but I was getting caffeine through hot tea (that I was sweetening with dairy-free flavored coffee creamer). I don't even miss it. Sometimes I'll have a few ounces of cold brew coffee blended with a chocolate shake or caramel macchiato shake in the morning for my first fueling, but that's an exception, and not a daily occurrence.
  • My stomach isn't bothering me. I have spent years dealing with gut issues and to have almost none for the past month is something that is very obvious to me. This is a low glycemic program, so perhaps that is the part I was missing for all the past years.
I am so happy I started this program. I am so proud of myself for it, even though it is ridiculously easy to stay on program. I am spending less time cooking, less time shopping, and less money overall on food, drinks, and groceries - which is crazy to me and I was skeptical about it, but after a month it is less than what I would normally spend.

If you are looking to feel better, sleep better, and GET THE WEIGHT OFF, I would love to coach you on the path I'm following, and help you create your own path to a healthier you! Please reach out to me, this program has literally changed my life in only 30 days, and I am so excited for what the future holds. I feel confident and excited to keep going on this path to a healthier me.

As of today, after 30 days on program, I am so proud to say I have lost 22 pounds!

Optavia Week 4 - WEIGH IN 11/9/20

Week 4 was probably the most difficult week I've had yet, and it's because I spent the weekend out of town with a group of friends, where we barely leave the rental house and basically eat and drink all weekend. However, this time I packed my fuelings, prepped my own meals (okay, honestly I would have been doing that anyway because I was doing the food elimination and not eating dairy, gluten, meat, etc.). I didn't have any alcohol, although I could have had up to two shots of clear liquor each day and still stayed on the plan technically - and I would have gone with vodka and lime Bubly with a squirt of fresh lime. I still had an absolute blast even not drinking, I don't think anyone was the wiser (haha, I was pretty secretive that I wasn't drinking), and I drank the lime Bubly (sans vodka) in my drink cup, so I could alternate that with regular water.

Other than that though, my week was great! I feel so amazing. I decided I want to share Optavia with my friends and became a coach (more on that in another post). I even have my first client! I am still in awe over how good I feel, and how great I am sleeping at night.

Some of the things I worked on this week - the mental work is necessary for my success.

  1. Eating a larger variety of fuelings. I have a lot that I tend to skip over and put off eating until another time, so I'm being more aware of rotating through them all.
  2. Documenting everything in my app and my journal - food and water. I like to have it written down so I can go back and reference it if needed.
  3. Going to bed when I should and not staying up reading too late.

So here's my Week 4 details from my weigh in:

I lost 1.7 pounds this week!

That brings my total in three weeks - just 28 days - on Optavia to -20.5 pounds. AMAZING. I am SO proud of myself and I want to shout it from the rooftops how easy and foolproof this program is.

Optavia Week 3 - WEIGH IN 11/2/20

Week 3 was super easy and super quick. I still can't get over how easy it is to follow the Optavia 5-1 program.

Some of the things I worked on this week - the mental work is necessary for my success.

  1. Less caffeine. I already didn't drink much, but I was drinking a ton of tea and the occasional cold brew coffee. I'll still do that occasionally (especially when I mix the cold brew with one of the Optavia shakes - yum), but I'm more conscientious of it.
  2. Documenting my foods, even just the fuelings, so I know which ones I am eating when and can track patterns.
  3. Limiting fueling bars to 2 per day. I've read they have a higher glycemic index than other fuelings and to limit them most days, unless it's one of those wacky days where you're out and about and can't easily accommodate the other fuelings.

So here's my Week 3 details from my weigh in:

I lost 4.2 pounds!

That brings my total in three weeks - just 21 days - on Optavia to -18.8 pounds. Holy crap. I can really see and feel the difference in my bust and my waist. And, my face is much thinner too - noticeably so.

Optavia Week 2 - WEIGH IN 10/26/20

Week 2 went by so quickly! I practiced being mindful of what I eat, taking my time to enjoy each and every bite, and making a point to reflect and think on things each day. I made sure I drank all my water each day, and ate all five fuelings each day. I started mixing up when I eat my lean and green, and sometimes I eat it during the early afternoon instead of the evening because it works better with my schedule, and I like that timing a lot.

The OPTAVIA Community is really helpful. I'm in a group on Facebook for our team and even though I'm not very active (ok, not active at all), I still gain from reading what other people post and share.

I like the mental work of this program too. It's forcing me to recognize food as fuel, a necessity to keep going, and not something to avoid (and then binge).

So here's my Week 2 details from my weigh in:

I lost 2.9 pounds this week!

That brings my total in two weeks - just 14 days - on Optavia to -14.6 pounds. Wowza.

Optavia Day 8 - 10/19/20 - WEIGH IN

Today I started Week 2 of Optavia.

First things first - I weighed in after finishing my first full week:

I lost 11.7 pounds!

HOLY SMOKES! I can't even believe it. I started last Monday and I was super bloated so I'm sure that played a part in it, but WOW. Even with going to the mountains and being gone for almost 2 days and I still had this huge success my first week. I love it!

I also looked at my sleep tracker on my watch and check this out.

Deep Sleep

Quality Sleep

Sleep Rating

And that sleep rating is even with a night in a hotel room while traveling. I still can't believe how ridiculously easy this program is to follow. I kinda love it! Yay Optavia!
